Legal formation

What the referee checks

  • Each back-row player must be behind the front-row player in front of them: 5 behind 4, 6 behind 3, 1 behind 2.
  • In each row, left to right: 4, 3, 2 in front and 5, 6, 1 behind.
  • Only these neighbours are compared. Zone 4 and zone 1 can stand anywhere relative to each other.
  • It is judged by your feet on the floor at the moment of the serve hit. Being level counts as legal, and afterwards everyone may move freely.
